Well Water Needs Its Own Treatment Train

Municipal water arrives disinfected and mostly clear. Well water doesn't: it can carry sand, hydrogen sulfide, iron, manganese, hardness and bacteria all at once, and the levels change with the season and the well. A commercial system has to handle all of that at full service flow without starving the building of pressure.

All For Water supplies the pieces of that system, from the sediment screen at the wellhead to the UV unit at the end, and helps you size them to your water test. For municipal-water sites, see our full range of commercial water filtration systems.

Where these systems go

  • ✓ Farms, nurseries, dairies and livestock operations
  • ✓ Restaurants, packing houses and food service on private wells
  • ✓ HOAs, mobile home parks and shared community wells
  • ✓ Hotels, RV parks, campgrounds and rural schools
  • ✓ Light manufacturing and car washes outside city service

The Order of Treatment

Each stage protects the one after it. Most sites need three or four of these, not all five.

  1. Stage 1

    Sediment

Spin-down or cartridge filtration protects every stage after it.

  2. Stage 2

    Oxidation

AIO, ozone or oxidizing media removes H2S, iron and manganese.

  3. Stage 3

    Softening

Clack softener or salt-free scale control for hardness.

  4. Stage 4

    Polishing

Carbon for taste and odor; reverse osmosis where low TDS is needed.

  5. Stage 5

    Disinfection

VIQUA UV sized to the full service flow.

Match the Problem to the Treatment

Start from the water test, not the symptoms alone. These are the components we stock for each problem.

Problem Signs Treatment What we supply
Sand, silt & grit Cloudy water, worn valve seals, clogged fixtures Spin-down screen or multi-cartridge sediment housing first in line Rusco Sediment Trapper & SS housings Sediment cartridges
Hydrogen sulfide (rotten-egg odor) Sulfur smell, black staining, corroded copper Air injection oxidation (AIO) filter, ozone, or KDF-85 media AIO H2S filter systems Commercial ozone generators
Iron & manganese Orange, brown or black stains; metallic taste Oxidizing media bed (Birm, Greensand Plus) or AIO filter Birm, Greensand Plus & filter media AIO filter systems
Hardness & scale White scale on heaters, boilers and fixtures Clack softener (single or twin-tank) or salt-free scale control Clack softener systems ScaleStop salt-free systems
Low pH (acidic water) Blue-green stains, pinhole leaks in copper Calcite neutralizing filter Calcite & neutralizing media
Bacteria Positive coliform test, sanitary-code requirements UV disinfection as the last stage before use VIQUA UV systems UV lamps & sleeves
Taste, odor & organics Earthy taste, residual odor after other treatment Backwashing activated-carbon filter Coconut-shell GAC

Sizing a Commercial Well System

Commercial well systems are sized by peak flow, not by building size. Backwashing filters also depend on the well pump: if the pump can't deliver the backwash rate for a large tank, the usual fix is a twin-tank system with a Clack MAV alternating valve, which also keeps treated water flowing during regeneration.

We stock AIO filters in six tank sizes (9x48 to 16x65), Clack softeners from 32,000 to 320,000 grain, and ScaleStop salt-free systems rated from 16 to 60 GPM.

Send us these and we'll spec the system

  • ✓ Peak flow rate (GPM) and daily water use
  • ✓ Well pump output (GPM) and pressure
  • ✓ Iron, manganese and hydrogen sulfide levels
  • ✓ Hardness, pH and TDS
  • ✓ Bacteria results, if the water is for drinking or food
  • ✓ Pipe size and available space for tanks

Commercial Well Water Questions

What is a commercial well water filtration system?

It is a multi-stage treatment train sized for the flow rate of a business, farm or shared community well. A typical system removes sediment first, then hydrogen sulfide, iron and manganese, then hardness, and finishes with UV disinfection. Which stages you need depends on the water test.

How do I size a well water filter for a commercial site?

Start with peak demand in gallons per minute and the well pump's output. Backwashing filters such as AIO, Birm and Greensand need the pump to deliver enough flow to backwash the tank, so an undersized pump means a smaller tank or a twin-tank setup. Send us the flow rate, pump output and a water analysis and we will recommend tank sizes, valves and media.

What water test results do you need?

Iron, manganese, hydrogen sulfide, hardness, pH and TDS at minimum, plus a bacteria test if the water is used for drinking or food service. Tannins, nitrates or arsenic need specific treatment, so include them if your lab tested for them.

Should the iron filter go before or after the softener?

Before. Iron, manganese and sulfur foul softener resin and RO membranes, so oxidation filtration (AIO or oxidizing media) goes ahead of the softener, and UV goes last so it treats clear water.

Do you sell well water systems directly to homeowners or businesses?

We sell wholesale to water treatment dealers, well contractors, plumbers and system builders. If you own the property, we can point you to a dealer who installs the equipment we supply.

How fast do you ship?

Most in-stock orders ship the same day from our Pembroke Park, Florida warehouse, and we export throughout the Caribbean and Latin America.
